The City is planning to install Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) at two crosswalks along 228 Street at the following locations:
•228 Street and 119 Avenue
•228 Street and Selkirk Avenue (entrance to the mall)
RRFBs are user-actuated amber LEDs that supplement warning signs at crosswalks or mid-block crosswalks. They are activated by pedestrians, manually by a push-button. RRFBs use an irregular flash pattern that is similar to emergency flashers on police vehicles.
The work generally consists of installation of the RRFBs, audible pedestrian push-buttons, overhead internally lit crosswalk signs with down lighting, underground electrical duct construction and surface restoration.
The project tender closed on October 11. Construction will commence shortly after the tender closing and is anticipated to be completed by the end of the year, weather permitting. Please plan for detours and thank you in advance for your patience during the construction.
Should you have any questions regarding this project, please contact the City of Maple Ridge Project Manager, Maria Guerra at 604-467-7356.
