If you are 19 years or older and lead a safe and healthy lifestyle, you could become a member of the Maple Ridge Fire Department as a paid-on-call firefighter. This is a very intense program that requires a significant commitment of your time. Class time is 20 hours per week (Wednesday evening - 4 hours, Saturday and Sunday - 8 hours each) plus 10 to 12 hours study time per week.
Typically recruitment is held in the Fall of each year. Applications are reviewed for minimum requirements. Applicants will be required to write a psychological profiling exam. A short list is developed and these applicants move forward to the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). Successful candidates are then scheduled for interviews. Once the interviews are completed, a short list is developed and successful applicants move forward to medical examinations and reference checks.
