Covid19_NewFlash

The following info pertains specifically to COVID-19 updates from Parks, Recreation & Culture (PRC) to help streamline this department’s info for citizens. The official City of Maple Ridge COVID-19 information landing page is available here.

Recreation Facility/Playground Closures & Parks Update

Sport fields, community halls, fairground buildings and recreation centres are closed in response to Provincial direction to ensure social distancing. Parks, Recreation & Culture staff will continue to monitor and implement new recommendations from the BC Centre for Disease Control and will provide additional notices to the public if further cancellations are required.

All sports fields, sports courts, skate parks and playgrounds are now closed in response to Provincial direction to practice social distancing. Signage and locks are being installed at these facilities. This closure will remain in effect until further notice. We are counting on parents to help keep their children away from these spaces.

City park sites and trails remain open at this time so people can get fresh air, however citizens are reminded to follow the guidelines to distance from other family units. We ALL need to do our part to stop the spread COVID-19.

Parks, Recreation & Culture staff will continue to monitor and implement recommendations outlined by the BC Centre for Disease Control and will communicate with the public if further cancellations are required.

UPDATE APRIL 3, 2020: Hammond Pool

The City of Maple Ridge stands united with Dr. Bonnie Henry, BC’s Public Health Officer, to stop the spread of COVID-19. The City has closed a number of facilities to limit the size of gatherings and ensure that we can all practice social distancing. Consistent with the COVID-19 response, the Hammond Outdoor Pool opening has been delayed until June 28th 2020.  City staff will continue to monitor and implement orders from the Province and will communicate with the public if a further delay is required. Thank you for your understanding and doing your part to flatten the curve of transmission of COVID-19 in our community.

Program/Membership/Rental Impacts

All Parks, Recreation & Culture programs that have been previously scheduled at the Maple Ridge Leisure Centre or satellite facilities have been cancelled until May 31, 2020. Any changes to these programs will be communicated to the program participants.  Programs that start at the end of May and beginning of June will remain as is until further information is provided by the Provincial Health Officer on the status of reopening public facilities.

Recreation program cancellations include all City programs at satellite locations, not just those located at our closed facilities (ex: programs located at Whonnock Lake are also cancelled). Refunds for affected programs will be provided as soon as possible.

All facility rentals have been canceled until April 30, 2020 to protect the community and reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Event Cancellations

All festivals and special events of more than 50 people on municipal property in Maple Ridge are cancelled up to May 31, 2020 or until further notice from the Provincial Health Officer. Staff are reaching out to individuals and organizations who have booked facilities to provide refunds.

We understand this is a difficult time for all and that these closures and cancellations may impact you, your family and/or your organization. We appreciate your understanding during this unprecedented time and are committed to providing you with updates and support where possible.
