Logistics

The Maple Ridge / Pitt Meadows ESS Logistics Team ensures operational readiness for activations of any size related to disasters such as floods, fires, or earthquakes through planning, exercising and communications.

Logistics Committee members work as a team and may work in smaller groups and with other committees on specialized projects.

Members of this team require a variety of skills, knowledge and experience.

Responsibilities


  • Maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies to ensure operational readiness.
  • Identify locations and conduct assessments of preferred facilities for the purpose of establishing a reception centre or group lodging in the event of a disaster.
  • Contact local suppliers to establish and/or renew supplier agreements for the purposes of delivering goods and services to those affected by disaster.
  • Meet monthly or as needed to train and exercise.

Skills & Abilities


  • Knowledge of BCEMS/Incident Command System
  • Familiar with local suppliers.
  • Valid BC Drivers Licence
  • Ability to work in teams or individually
  • Able to read and interpret floorplans

  • Introduction to ESS
  • Introduction to Reception Centres
  • Resource Acquisition

Commitment


  • Available to attend most scheduled committee meetings
  • Participate in ESS exercises
  • Take required training courses provided by Emergency Support Services Programs

Tips for Volunteers

Being organized doesn't just feel good - It is key to successfully responding in an emergency! Check your emergency kits at least every 6 months to refresh food and water and any medications or seasonal clothing that you may require.
