Volunteer Management

The Maple Ridge / Pitt Meadows ESS Volunteer Management Committee assists the Emergency Support Services Office in general volunteer coordination and program support.

Members of this team require a variety of skills, knowledge and experience related to volunteer management, program development and exercise design as well as considerable ESS volunteer experience (or approval from the ESS Director).

Responsibilities


  • Provide feedback and guidance on volunteer engagement
  • Identify training opportunities and recommend exercise objectives
  • Assist Emergency Support Services Office in the initiation and support of any level of municipal or regional emergency operations.
  • Assist in Reception Centres, Group Lodging, or the Emergency Operations Centre as required during emergency response.
  • Meet as needed

Skills & Abilities


  • Knowledge of BCEMS/Incident Command System
  • Considerable knowledge of ESS plans.
  • Valid BC Drivers Licence
  • Ability to work in teams or individually
  • Able to lead and provide direction to others

  • Introduction to Group Lodging
  • Site Management

Commitment


  • Available to attend most scheduled committee meetings
  • Participate in ESS exercises
  • Take required training courses provided by Emergency Support Services Programs

Tips for Volunteers


After your shift you should consider doing things that help you relax like talking with other volunteers about the day, getting exercise (walk, swim, run...), eating healthy, rest, etc. If you've had a tough day - remember you've made a difference!
