The City is replacing the sanitary sewer in North Lane from 223 Street to 224 Street by pipe bursting.
The replacement of the existing sanitary sewer is required and the project entails upsizing the pipe from 200mm to 250mm in diameter for approximately 167 meters of sanitary sewer. Trenchless technology or pipe-bursting was selected as the appropriate sewer replacement method rather than the traditional open-cut method, due to several complex site constraints. Although pipe bursting is less intrusive than the open-cut method, the contractor will need to excavate entry and exit pits and reconnect existing service connections to the new sewer main. As a result, traffic may be limited in the lane occasionally.
The contract has been awarded to PW Trenchless Construction Inc. and construction is underway and expected to be completed by early March, depending on weather conditions. Attempts will be made to minimize the impact to everyday traffic, residents, and businesses in the neighbourhood that access the lane.
