The City of Maple Ridge has started construction of the pedestrian and cycling facilities on 117 Avenue from 207 Street to Laity Street and on Laity Street from 117 Avenue to Lougheed Highway. The construction of the 3m multi-use path will create a safe and inviting pedestrian and cycling facility on 117 Avenue and Laity Street.
The scope of work includes the design and construction of the asphalt multi-use path, streetlights and traffic calming features. The pathway will be located on the south side of 117 Avenue and on the east side of Laity Street, which will connect to the existing multi-use path on Lougheed Highway.
The City of Maple Ridge held a virtual information session on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, to discuss the safety analysis results and changes were incorporated into the design. You can view the presentation slides from the event. Upon feedback received at the information session, the City will implement a sidewalk on the north side, from Camwood Park to the nearest intersection, and incorporate additional north/south crossings throughout 117 Avenue to facilitate ease of pedestrian movement.
Aplin & Martin Consultants Ltd. completed the detailed design and the project was tendered in accordance with the City’s procurement standards. The construction contract has been awarded to Crown Contracting Limited. The Notice to Proceed was granted and construction commenced on August 15, 2022. The contractor is providing construction notices to area residents as they progress.
Please note that Crown Contracting Limited has also been awarded the construction contract for the River Road Traffic Calming project. The Contractor is coordinating the construction for both projects in parallel, with completion expected in the summer of 2023. Due to global supply chain issues, lighting for the multi-use path will be delayed until fall or winter 2023.
We appreciate your patience throughout construction. Should you have any questions regarding this project, please contact the City of Maple Ridge Project Manager, Jason Bomans, at 604-467-7349.
