River Road Traffic Calming

This project is complete.

The City of Maple Ridge has started the construction of traffic calming measures at six locations along River Road between 207 Street and 216 Street.

While traffic calming for collector roadways is limited, these improvements transition existing temporary measures into improved permanent curb extensions and road narrowing installations. The temporary bollards will be replaced with permanent concrete curb and gutter bump outs, complete with signage.

The City of Maple Ridge held a virtual open house on Thursday, November 4, 2021. You can view the presentation slides from the event. A future project is planned at the intersection of Steeves Street at River Road. The City of Maple Ridge plans to delay traffic calming construction at this intersection to accommodate the future project. Where necessary, temporary works will be provided until the future project is complete.

Aplin & Martin Consultants Ltd. completed the detailed design and the project was tendered in accordance with the City’s procurement standards. The construction contract has been awarded to Crown Contracting Limited. The Notice to Proceed was granted and construction commenced August 15, 2022.  The contractor is providing construction notices to area residents as they progress.

Please note that Crown Contracting Limited has also been awarded the construction contract for the 117 Avenue Corridor Improvements project. The Contractor is coordinating the completion of construction for both projects in parallel, with completion expected in the summer of 2023.

Thank you for your patience throughout construction. Should you have any questions regarding this project, please contact the City of Maple Ridge Project Manager, Jason Bomans, at 604-467-7349.
