Project Site One: River Road at Maple Ridge Elementary School

The temporary installation of the flexible bollards at this site has proven effective in reducing the speeds in this school zone. The anticipated work at this site is to replace the temporary structures with permanent curb and gutter bump outs and ‘refugee islands’ made with concrete. The work will also make permanent the pedestrian crossing. Once the concrete curbs and gutters are put into place the road surfaces will be repaved and new markings will be put on the road surface. Part of the planning for this work will be to minimize the impact on students and parents in the times that school is in session.

Project Site Two: River Road at Steeves Street

As noted with project site one, the anticipated work is to remove the temporary bollards and replace them with permanent concrete curb and gutter bump outs. Once the concrete work is completed, the asphalt will be resurfaced with temporary patch work. In the winter of 2022, this intersection will be repaved after a new sanitary forcemain underground connection to a manhole located in the centre of this intersection is complete.

Project Site Three: River Road at Best Street

Once again, the anticipated work is the replacement of the temporary bollards and to replace them with permanent concrete curb and gutter bump outs. This site will also see the creation of a new pedestrian crossing and sidewalk link to Jordan Park as warranted. Once the concrete work is completed, the surface asphalt will be repaved and new street markings will be painted on the road surface.

Project Site Four: River Road at 216 Street

The anticipated work at this site is the replacement of the temporary bollards and to replace them with permanent concrete curb and gutter bump outs.

Other Work

We will also look at some locations between the major intersections for curb and gutter bulb outs to add to the traffic calming measures along this section of roadway. Once those locations are determined, the concrete curb and gutters would be installed and the road surface repaved with appropriate street markings.
