MOVE Maple Ridge
What is MOVE Maple Ridge?
MOVE Maple Ridge is a collaborative group comprised of staple community sector representatives working together to create and encourage a positive, healthy and active community. Funded through the Ministry of Health and Sport for Life, this community initiative seeks to improve the development of physical literacy in Maple Ridge and increase physical activity to positively impact health and well-being in our community. Committee Members will work to provide the opportunity for our residents to develop movement skills, confidence, motivation and enjoyment to be active for life.

Adaptive Sports Day
On February 21, MOVE Maple Ridge teamed up community partners SportAbility BC and BC Wheelchair Basketball to host an adaptive sports day for the community. An exciting day for the City of Maple Ridge, as on this day we launched our very own sport wheelchairs – a first for the City! This event had fantastic reception. We had participants join us from all over the lower mainland and had interest from other local sport organizations to join us and facilitate their own para-sport. We had 30 participants have the opportunity to try Wheelchair Basketball, Para-Archery, Para-Ice Hockey (adapted for the gymnasium), Boccia and learn other fundamental skills in a sport wheelchair. Adaptive Sports day was a huge success and made a great impact on the community.
MOVE Maple Ridge is thrilled to be continuing the work of completing action items associated with the Physical Literacy for BC Communities project. Obtaining sport equipment and hosting para-sport opportunities was a priority for MOVE Maple Ridge. Our group looks forward to continuing this good work as we move towards implementing more meaningful and truly inclusive opportunities for the Maple Ridge Community.
