New Technology
In early 2010, Maple Ridge Information Technology staff adopted a new technology that is cost-effective and considered best practice for its impact on corporate operations and the environment. The use of terminal services in combination with thin client hardware provides significant savings in terms of cost of equipment, maintenance, downtime, installing/updating software and environmental impact.
The improvements made by the Information Technology team won a Community Energy Association - Energy and Climate Action Award in the Corporate Operations category.
Positive Changes
Among the positive environmental changes of the adopted technology is a reduction in energy consumption of approximately 230,000 kilowatt hours per year and an annual reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of 4.6 tonnes. Operational costs are expected to decline due to the new technology while at the same time achieving improvements to system security, software, maintenance and customer service.
