Here are some things you can do to help ensure the environment is preserved for our children and grandchildren.
Buy Local
- Buy local produce, grow your own produce or visit the CEED Centre Society to learn more about programs and services related to community development and food security.
- Visit the Haney Farmers Market from May 9 to October 10, 9:00 am - 2:00 pm in Memorial Peace Park on 224 Street in downtown Maple Ridge.
- Take a self-guided Circle Farm Tour through Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.
Resource Conservation
- Consider energy efficient devices. There are lots of energy-saving tips, rebates and savings at BC Hydro to reduce your energy consumption.
- BC Hydro and FortisBC are now jointly offering free energy saving kits for low-income households.
- Install water-saving devices such as low-flow toilets, taps and shower heads.
- Purchase a rain barrel from the Ridge Meadows Recycling Society and conserve water by using rainwater to water your garden and plants.
Transportation
- Work locally. Maple Ridge's career webpage is a good start. Check back regularly for updates.
- Consider purchasing a low-emission vehicle or visit the Vancouver Electric Vehicle Association to find out more about electric vehicles in Metro Vancouver.
- Support HUB: Your Cycling Connection which encourages residents to bike to work or just for fun.
- Consider alternative modes of transportation (bike, walk, take transit or carpool).
Waste & Recycling.
Ridge Meadows Recycling Society is actively diverting materials from the waste stream with a weekly blue box curbside collection program, an apartment collection service, a commercial recycling collection service and a full-service drop-off depot/processing centre.- Be conscious of the impacts of what you consume and discard
- Compost your waste
- Avoid garburator usage to reduce the load on our wastewater treatment plants
- Buy products with little or no packaging
- Swap used clothing with friends, or buy second-hand
- Recycle old computers and electronic equipment
