Storm Update
The rain ended around midnight last night. The forecast for Thursday is for no significant rainfall. The forecast for Friday through Monday is for cooler weather with a chance of snow or rain, depending on the elevation and freezing level. The rainfall or snow amounts for each day are forecast at less than 5 mm for that period. The next rainfall event is expected to start on Tuesday, however the forecast is for 10 mm of precipitation for Tuesday and Wednesday.
River Impacts
The Alouette Reservoir is currently at a freecrest level. The uncontrolled release of water will transition to a controlled release over the next 24 hours as water levels are lowered to normal operational levels for this time of year.
The South Alouette river flows peaked just after midnight last night at levels similar to the November 15 rain event. Water levels are now dropping; however, flow rates and volumes will continue to be higher than normal over the next week as the reservoir release continues.
The North Alouette levels continued to drop throughout the night and there was no additional flood impacts for adjacent roads.
The Kanaka water levels are also receding to more seasonal norms.
Current Situation
The situation has stabilized and City crews will be out in the community inspecting bridges and roadways to determine if there were any impacts due to this rain event. Flow rates for the South Alouette will continue to be higher than seasonal norms as BC Hydro releases water from the reservoir to get back to normal operational levels. Please be very careful around this watercourse for the next week as the controlled release continues.
The City would like to acknowledge and thank volunteers who came to the sand locations and filled bags for their neighbours that were at risk from this rain event.
