Maple Ridge Receives Grant for Silver Valley Gathering Place

Maple Ridge, BC: The provincial government will be providing $200,000 towards youth amenities at the new Silver Valley Gathering Place. The City of Maple Ridge was awarded the grant as part of the Province of BC’s Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program.

The funding will be used to build park amenities geared for youth, including Maple Ridge’s first parkour course. Parkour facilities have proved very popular in neighbouring communities.

“The City is delighted to receive this funding to bring unique recreational amenities to the Silver Valley neighbourhood,” said Chad Neufeld, Manager of Parks Planning & Development. “This will provide youth in our community with an opportunity to get outside, try something new and enjoy this exciting park.”

The Silver Valley Gathering Place will be located at Blaney Hamlet Park on 230A Street, which opened in 2019. The project will also contain a covered pavilion, washrooms, skateboard ‘streetscape’ features and an open grass area for community events.

In February, staff completed the second phase of community consultation and are now reviewing comments to refine the detailed project design. Construction is expected to start this summer.
