New Street Tree Replacement Update September 2026
Over the summer, the City’s contractor has been watering newly planted street trees and addressing deficiencies. Some tree loss is expected with any planting project, as newly planted trees can be affected by transplant shock, summer drought, weather conditions, pests, and other site factors. The current number of trees requiring replacement is within the expected range for a project of this size.
In early fall, City crews will remove trees that did not survive the summer. Replacement street trees will be planted in fall 2026 as part of the project warranty process.
If a newly planted tree near you has not survived, please email urbanforestry@mapleridge.ca.

Request to Have a Street Tree!
As part of implementing the action plan of the Urban Forest Management Plan the City of Maple Ridge successfully applied for and received federal funding for an ambitious tree planting project on municipal lands. This project involves planting 1,000 new trees in parks and on streets that were deemed high priority sites based on the City’s tree canopy coverage.
Description
The City’s Urban Forest Management Plan outlines measures to sustainably manage and expand Maple Ridge’s vital green spaces and tree canopy. The strategy represents the City’s commitment to protect and expand our urban tree canopy and details a 20-year action plan to achieve a target of 40% tree canopy coverage in urban areas.
Planting of the 1,000 trees will occur across 20 municipal parks with low canopy coverage and throughout residential streets mostly focused in west Maple Ridge.
This project is funded through the Government of Canada’s $2 billion Trees Program, delivered through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Growing Canada’s Community Canopies initiative, and by the City of Maple Ridge.
