Community Engagement

The City of Maple Ridge is committed to engaging and communicating with the community in support of building an inclusive and vibrant City.

In 2022, the City developed a Corporate Communications and Public Engagement Strategy that established a specific set of actions to both help the City more effectively communicate with residents, as well as enhance how we engage with the community on projects, gather information and implement feedback.

Our aim is to ensure that the community is aware of City services and engaged in the decisions affecting them, and that the organization is responsive to what it hears and works together with the community and partners to shape the future of Maple Ridge.

Community Engagement Framework

Well-planned and authentic public engagement supports informed decision-making and better outcomes, and ensures members of the public are more informed and connected.

The City is currently developing a Guide for Community Engagement and an Engagement Framework. The Guide and Framework will help staff develop community engagement opportunities that are consistent, meaningful, and accessible. These documents will be posted to this page when available.

Engage Maple Ridge - Our Community Engagement Platform

Engage Maple Ridge is our online community engagement platform for encouraging public participation and promoting a two-way dialogue with the community.

Information and feedback received through the platform informs Council's decisions on a wide variety of matters. The platform provides a range of options for feedback and discussion and gives the City a deeper understanding of the community's priorities.

The interactive tools available through Engage Maple Ridge include surveys, short polls, forums, mapping of relevant places, guestbooks, and more.

Be sure to register so you can opt-in for updates on the projects that interest you!

International Association for Public Participation

Foundation for Community Engagement

The City uses the International Association for Public Participation's (IAP2) Spectrum of Public Participation to guide our engagement work and will also use it as a foundational element in the development of our Guide for Community Engagement and Engagement Framework.

IAP2's Spectrum was designed to help select the level of participation that defines the public's role in any public participation process. The Spectrum is used internationally, and it is found in many community engagement plans.
