Canada 150 Geocaching Project

The Canada 150 geocaches will officially kick off on June 4, 2017 at Kanaka Creek Regional Park, Maple Ridge Museum and Maple Ridge Park. The Maple Ridge Heritage Commission has established seven geocaches to develop awareness of Maple Ridge’s history and heritage. The Canada 150 celebration provides the perfect opportunity for the Community Heritage Commission to collaborate with the City and other stakeholders on this project.

WHY GEOCACHING?

Geocaching is a great way for families to get outside. With summer around the corner, now is the perfect time for an outdoor adventure. Geocaching with kids is awesome! It combines the excitement of a family treasure hunt, the outdoor fun and exercise of a hike, and the wonder of GPS technology.

#MRHeritage Inventory Project

The Maple Ridge Community Heritage Commission (CHC) wants your input to help update the heritage sites listed on the Heritage Resources of Maple Ridge (aka Heritage Inventory). The Inventory contains a listing of 100 historic sites, which have been researched, photographed and described as special historic places within the community. It was completed in 1998 after a public nomination process, undertaken by Donald Luxton & Associates, and has served as an invaluable tool in the community’s heritage management program.

The review will involve determining which sites should remain on the listing and what new ones should be added. The CHC would like input from the community on what sites to include in the update based on their cultural, social, scientific and spiritual heritage. Some examples are buildings, landscapes, vistas, monuments, artifacts, gathering spaces, etc.

Please visit #MRHeritage Inventory Project for more information and to submit your nominations.
