The Municipal Advisory Committee on Accessibility and Inclusiveness (MACAI) applied for and received a grant (though Plan H and BC Healthy Communities) to create a City of Maple Ridge Accessibility & Inclusiveness Framework. The vision for the Framework is to remove barriers and increase supports for Maple Ridge residents at risk of exclusion, thereby improving our community's health and wellbeing.

Website Accessibility Design Guidelines
This website is designed with the aim to be accessible to the widest possible audience, regardless of technology or ability in line with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard.
Specifically, our website has been designed with the following accessibility guidelines in mind:
- The standard font used throughout the site has been chosen to be easily legible
- Wherever possible, we use text instead of graphics to reduce the download time of pages and increase your control
- Our pages are designed to display responsively without the need for a horizontal scroll bar on any device
- No information is exclusively conveyed using colour. This doesn't mean that colours are not used to organize information; instead it means there are also other, non-colour dependent ways of doing this
- All images and hyperlinks, where appropriate, have an alternative text attribute. This means when an image or hyperlink is conveying important information its content is described with alternative text

Accessibility Tools
In addition to the accessibility-compliant design of the new website, the City has added an additional accessibility tool that can further customize the user’s online experience on the City’s website. This accessibility tool can be enabled by the user either hitting the tab key when the page first loads or by clicking the blue accessibility menu icon that appears on the right side of the page. The user can then customize their personal viewing settings, including language translation.
