Maple Ridge, B.C., February 23, 2026 –  The City of Maple Ridge is encouraging everyone to Be Bold and Choose Kindness on Pink Shirt Day on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, joining communities across Canada and around the world in taking a stand against bullying and discrimination.

Pink Shirt Day is held annually on the last Wednesday of February. The national anti-bullying movement began in 2007, when students in Nova Scotia rallied around a boy who was bullied for wearing a pink shirt. What started as a simple act of solidarity has grown into a worldwide movement promoting kindness, inclusion, and respect.

To show its support, City Council and City staff will wear pink at the Tuesday, February 24 Council meeting, symbolizing the City’s commitment to diversity, kindness, and the power each of us has to create positive change. City Hall is lit up pink all week and City staff are encouraged to wear pink throughout the day.

While progress has been made, bullying and discrimination remain a reality for many people—in schools, workplaces, and throughout our communities. Pink Shirt Day serves as an important reminder to Be Bold and Choose Kindness.

A kind word, an act of support, or standing up for someone who needs help can have a lasting impact. Residents are encouraged to wear pink on February 25, share positive messages, and spread words of encouragement both online and in person.
