Maple Ridge, B.C., January 15, 2026 — The City of Maple Ridge is sharing information to support residents impacted by flooding during a significant weather event between January 11, and 12 when a High Streamflow Advisory and Flood Watch were in effect.

The prolonged storm brought heavy rainfall, elevated river levels, and localized flooding in parts of the community. The City recognizes the challenges residents experienced and is providing guidance to support safe recovery efforts and outline next steps.

Post-Flood Safety and Cleanup

Initial cleanup should focus on removing standing water, disposing of items that cannot be safely disinfected, and thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting affected surfaces to reduce health risks, including mold. Use caution when re-entering flooded areas, as hidden hazards may still be present.

Disaster Financial Assistance

The City is working with provincial partners at Emergency Management and Climate Readiness (EMCR) to determine whether this storm event will be eligible for Provincial Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA). DFA is intended to assist residents with uninsurable losses related to essential repairs and recovery following significant emergency events. Further information on eligibility and application steps will be provided once details are confirmed by the Province.

In the meantime, residents are encouraged to:

City Response

The City responded proactively before, during, and after the storm event, including inspecting and maintaining drainage infrastructure, monitoring river levels, deploying pumps in priority areas and road closures where required, providing sandbags and sharing regular public updates.

The City is continuing to assess storm-related impacts. Initial observations indicate impacts primarily to road shoulders and paving, potholes, downed trees, and debris accumulation. Crews are actively completing cleanup and repairs, and this work will continue as conditions allow.

Storm-related issues on City roads, parks and trails can be reported at MapleRidge.ca/Report or by calling 604-463-9581. For road or safety hazards on provincial routes, including Lougheed Highway, residents should contact Mainroad Group (24/7) at 604-271-0337.
