The Economic Development department proactively positions Maple Ridge as a location of choice for people, investment, and lifestyle. The department aims to establish positive, sustainable, and equitable change within the community that creates a resilient and diverse economy. Services include investment attraction, business retention and expansion, tourism marketing and development, and film permitting, coordination, and development.
BizPaL is an innovative, free online service that provides you with simplified access to information about business permits, licences, and other requirements needed to establish, operate, and grow your business. BizPaL was created to help identify what you may need from participating levels of government, quickly and easily. Please note that the BizPaL database is not all inclusive, and you will still have to conduct additional research to ensure that your business is regulatory compliant.
Getting a business licence is a simple process that is required of all businesses operating in Maple Ridge. City staff will help you work through the process of getting permits (if applicable) and your business licence.

The Downtown Maple Ridge Business Improvement Association (DMRBIA) exists to encourage and promote business in the downtown area through various cooperative projects and operations which aim to improve the downtown business community in general. Programs and services offered to members include Safety & Security, Beautification & Revitalization, and Events & Promotions.
All businesses located in the DMRBIA catchment area are automatically members and are encouraged to engage and/or volunteer with their association.
Fraser Valley Regional Library (FVRL), British Columbia's largest public library system, offers access to nearly one million items in its floating collection and a robust Digital Library with free access to resources such as e-books, digital magazines, video learning, and peer-reviewed journals.
The library also offers a Book a Librarian service where members can book a 30-minute appointment with a librarian for research help or guidance on a specific topic, including business plan research and small business resources.
The City of Maple Ridge purchases goods and services from businesses of all kinds to meet the needs of our residents, businesses, and other community members. The Procurement department is responsible for securing these goods and services through generally accepted public and professional procurement practices and providing information on how to sell to the City.
Metro Vancouver's Procurement Division is responsible for the procurement of goods, services, and construction, as well as the disposition of surplus assets, obsolete assets, and salvage assets to achieve overall best value for Metro Vancouver.
Your local chamber of commerce connects businesses through networking, learning, and advocacy to promote and protect the interests of their members. The Ridge Meadows Chamber of Commerce welcomes businesses of all sizes, including home-based businesses. Ask about their special offer for new memberships for Maple Ridge businesses.

Services provided to employers include assistance with finding employees (including resumé vetting); work experience placements; tools and resources, including HR webinars and workshops; recruitment support through job fairs or company-specific hiring fairs; assistance preparing recruitment materials and training plans; and information and support to access funding, training grants, and wage subsidies.

This toolkit builds upon the commitments made by G7 Leaders at the 2025 Kananaskis Summit under Canada's G7 Presidency. It is designed to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) — including micro-enterprises — in deploying secure, responsible and trustworthy artificial intelligence (AI), in alignment with the Hiroshima AI Process (HAIP) International Guiding Principles for Organizations Developing Advanced AI Systems. Climate Preparedness & Adaptation
Preparing for climate change strengthens our ability to respond to extreme events like wildfires, flooding, and heatwaves, as well as more gradual changes like water shortages and sea level rise. All levels of government are collaborating and working together with communities to help protect ecosystems, lower long-term costs, and keep people and businesses safe.
Resilient Future 2050: Moving Boldly Toward Low-Carbon Resilience, endorsed by Council in June 2025, is the City of Maple Ridge's first-ever climate action plan. The plan was developed through extensive public engagement, is anchored in quantitative analysis of our city's climate risks and hazards, and is built around five key transformative 'Bold Moves' goals, including Support a Low-Carbon Resilient Economy & Agriculture.
The Province has completed its Climate Preparedness & Adaptation Strategy and continues to implement actions, tools, and programs to support the transition to a low-carbon resilient future. Information specific to British Columbia businesses is available from the Province's website.
CleanBC Better Buildings is B.C.’s online hub for businesses to access information, incentives, and support to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in new and existing buildings. CleanBC Better Buildings is funded by the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada under the Low Carbon Economy Fund. Incentives are administered by BC Hydro, FortisBC, and BC Housing.
CleanBC Better Buildings resources include:
- Easy to use incentive search tools for residential renovations, residential new construction, commercial renovations, and commercial new construction
- Information and answers to frequently asked questions on energy efficiency upgrades
- Free energy coaching services for homeowners and businesses undertaking renovations, including a phone and email hotline staffed by energy coaching specialists

- Commercial new construction for multi-unit residential buildings, commercial buildings, and institutional buildings
Energy Coach Service
The Energy Coach is a free coaching service for commercial building owners and managers in British Columbia. Energy Coaches are trained energy efficiency specialists who provide building-science based information about the options and opportunities to improve the energy efficiency of your commercial building. They are available to answer your questions at all stages of your energy improvement project. Selected coaching support is available for commercial building owners or managers, while a full-site of services is available to homeowners.
Energy Coach services include:
- Access to Energy Coaches via a toll-free hotline and e-mail
- Information about available incentives
- If needed, directing you to appropriate program representatives
Training programs for industry, service providers, and suppliers are available across British Columbia from a variety of public- and private-sector providers. Offerings range from half-day workshops and seminars to multi-course microcredential programs requiring a greater time commitment and may be available via in-person, online, or hybrid delivery methods.
