About the Exhibition
Clay for You: Lineage/(계보) shares how artistic knowledge is carried forward to future generations through the generosity of teaching.
Each member has contributed new works that demonstrate a lineage of Korean ceramic production, such pale green celadon vessels and earthy buncheong ware, and featuring surface treatments of inlay (sanggam/상감), relief carving (yanggak/양각), incised carving (eumgak/음각), openwork (tugak/투각), reverse inlay (역상감), and bakji (박지). Clay for You: Lineage also includes a collection of Master Kim’s ‘national treasures’ - recreations of historical Korean ceramic works from the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392).
To contribute to the survival of Korean ceramics, the Clay for You collective hones their skills in traditional techniques and contemporary innovations. Their artistic lineage connects potters within their community, through time, and across geographical distances.
